One of Plymouth’s most historic attractions is also someplace to see exotic foreign locations, classical music, and futuristic science fiction. The Penn Theatre has movies (second run), Plymouth Symphony concerts, and various other forms of live entertainment throughout the year. As one of metro Detroit’s few remaining old theatres, the Penn has quite a history (open 1941) which you can read about

Hough Park, located in the City of Plymouth, Michigan, is a quiet, neighborhood park between Maple and Park Place, and McKinley, and Evergreen. This uncommon and unspoilt green space anchors the Hough Park Subdivision which includes Elm, Woodland Place, and parts of Linden and Ann Arbor Trail. Located within easy walking distance to town, these tree lined streets shade some of Plymouth’s most desirable homes. In Hough Park, you’ll find everything from the historic English Tudor built by the grandson of Lewis Cass Hough in 1927 ,to the magnificent Colonial homes on Maple, to the impressive restorations and additions throughout the neighborhood. In addition, you’ll see a range of Ranch and Cape Cod style homes as well. Built mostly in the 1940-1950′s with a few exceptions - both newer and older, Hough Park is also known as a wonderful place to just take a walk with your dog or stroller. From Spring through Fall, you can always see people young and old out enjoying the neighborhood. If you want to learn more about living in Hough Park, give Carrie a call at 734-788-2398.
It’s exciting to see yet another restaurant coming to downtown Plymouth taking the place of Cafe bon Homme and the short lived Mexican restaurant. This time the theme is Mediterranean with what looks like a Greek flair. Plymouth continues to show plenty of new business growth – especially in terms of restaurants, bars, confectionery shops, and even toys. Hopefully this trend will continue and flourish once the economy turns around. In the meantime, all of this new business activity just makes Plymouth a more vibrant, diverse, and exciting place to live or spend the day! Stop by and it looks like the place is dog friendly too with a water dish outside!
There’s plenty of seating inside but you can easily take away your carry out food. Next step might be a few sidewalk tables to do some people watching on the streets of Plymouth. (which are now there!). For more info on Plaka, you can visit their website at
Update December 20th, 2009: We bought our son’s birthday cake from Sweets 21 and it was GREAT! He’s a big Sponge Bob fan so this year, we indulged him with a Sponge Bob cake – even theme appropriate due to the pool party. The cake looked better than the picture we ordered it from and everyone love the cake, filling, frosting, design, and the sweetness - which was perfectly light enough to keep kids and parents happy. If only the characters on the cake could have been edible – that would have really blown us all away! But the kids loved it anyway.
try out a couple of desserts and they were excellent! There’s a wide selection of different cakes and smaller items too. The shop has a small sitting area if you want to enjoy your dessert immediately. The continuing trend of new business openings in downtown Plymouth shows how the local economy continues to hold up despite tough economic conditions. With each new store opening, Plymouth adds further depth and diversity to the retail and entertainment district. We all need cakes for birthdays and celebrations and now we have an option right here in downtown! Good luck to Sweets 21.
